PCE Keeps Inflation Hot: My Immediate Read — September 30, 2026

⚡ What This Means for Traders — September 30, 2026

  • The Fed’s preferred inflation gauge shows prices are still too hot.
  • Stocks will struggle to rally with rates staying elevated for longer.
  • I’m bearish on broad market indices in the short term.

That PCE print just dropped. It’s not good news for the bulls.

Inflation isn’t easing as much as some hoped. The Fed’s got no reason to pivot now.

What Just Happened

The Personal Consumption Expenditures index is the Fed’s main inflation tool. It tracks what consumers actually spend money on, making it a critical measure.

August data showed little sign of easing price pressures. Revisions did show inflation was slightly cooler than previously believed, but not by much.

This means sticky inflation is still a problem. The market was looking for a clear downtrend, and we didn’t get it.

What It Means for Your Trades

Higher interest rates are here to stay longer. That’s a direct hit to valuations for growth stocks and companies reliant on cheap debt.

Watch rate-sensitive tech names; they’ll feel the squeeze. Consumer discretionary stocks also face headwinds as people have less spending power.

On the flip side, financials might see some upside. Higher rates mean better net interest margins for banks.

Commodity-related sectors could also hold up better. They often act as an inflation hedge when other assets struggle.

My Take

I’m bearish after this report. There’s no clear path for the Fed to ease up on monetary policy.

Sticky inflation crushes consumer confidence and corporate earnings. This environment makes it tough for a sustained market rally.

We need to see a decisive drop in inflation before I’d consider getting aggressive on the long side. This data doesn’t provide that.

Conviction: high
